Relationship & Family Law

The concerns and disputes that arise from the legal implications of intimate relationships.

Our family law team has extensive experience across all practice areas relating to relationship law from relationship formation through until breakdown. We act with empathy, and with our clients’ best interests at heart.

Disputes involving children can be daunting, but we ensure that our team takes a sensitive approach. We listen and ensure every move is made strategically to ensure the best outcome for you and your families specific needs.

We provide advice on asset protection to ensure the preservation of inter-generational wealth. Asset protection is an area of concern for many clients, especially those who operate in primary industries such as farming and the fisheries where family wealth may be more likely to be exposed to relationship breakdown.

Where possible, we take the view that prevention is better than cure.

Walker Murdoch’s family law team regularly represent clients in the Family and High Courts in relation to family law applications, whether it be parenting arrangements, division of assets, spousal maintenance or protection orders.

While many of these see our team appearing at the Invercargill Family Court, we also have clients across New Zealand and the lower South Island and regularly appear in the Queenstown Family Court.

Our team has one of the few Collaboratively Trained Family Lawyers in Southland. Pip Walker Stevens is able to assist matters where conflict minimisation is a priority to preserve an ongoing parenting relationship moving forward.
